Harvest 2023

For the first time in 2023 I kept extensive records of my vegetable harvest.

This is from 6 raised beds of various sizes (the largest two are about 3.5 ft x 8 ft),  4 EarthBoxes, 3 EarthTainers (planted with melons only) and a few pots in front of the garage.

Tomato 4296 (Not a typo! Includes all sizes and types)

Turnip 31

Summer squash ‘Pantheon’

Peppers, shishito

I did not record kale or swiss chard but did have multiple plants of each (most of which was used as greens for the hens and goldfinch breakfasts).
I did not record carrots or beets, but did not plant that many (will plant much more of those this year, especially for the fall / winter garden and especially the white beets which were SO delicious raw). Basil I did not track either, but I had a lovely lush patch.

One particularly noteworthy harvest came from one single summer squash ‘Pantheon’, a hybrid romanesco type. From that ONE plant (which measured about 5 feet across), I harvested 75 fruits! And it was still producing more as I pulled it out to make room for fall / winter garden plants. Another amazing thing about ‘Pantheon’: It had absolutely no sign of mildew at any point, which all other squash plants in my garden have succumbed to especially at the end of the season.

Basil ‘Crimson King’

With the new tall raised beds, I have gotten 40 to 80% more harvest, depending on the crop.
